We’re always praying for our kids. Right? We worry a lot. There’s so much that can go wrong in an instant. Our worry levels escalate toward the end of Spring Semester, especially with our seniors. What if they fail a class? What if something awful happens during or after a senior party? What if the child you taught to drive forgets your safety lessons?
These scenarios all happened to teens in my kids’ classes. The first two have happy endings. The teen who failed the class made it up over the summer and entered college on schedule. The teen who overdosed during a party woke up at a hospital, then assaulted his nurse for not allowing him to leave. There were lasting legal repercussions over that tantrum, as well as a stint in a rehabilitation center. He’s now doing well. But the teen who neglected to buckle her seatbelt and swerved into a tree rounding a curve too fast didn’t have a second chance. Her parents, I understand, are still devastated.
During these last couple months of school, there’s so much distracting teens from their academics—end-of-year banquets, concerts, tournaments, prom, and summer plans. It’s hard to focus on those essays, group projects, and finals. So much to juggle for kids whose brains aren’t fully developed. I’m thankful not to be a teen in 2022.
Please join me in bolstering our favorite teens and all the teens worldwide through collective prayer. As you lift them up, please remember the Ukrainian teen refugees and the Afghani female teens who are no longer allowed to attend school. Following are some scriptures that I find helpful when praying for protection:
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. ~ Proverbs 30:5
The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. ~ Psalm 121:7-8
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. ~ Romans 8:28
Little children, you are from God . . . for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. ~ 1 John 4:4
I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. ~ John 17:15
But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. ~ 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~ Isaiah 41:10
For nothing will be impossible with God. ~ Luke 1:37
