During worship service on Sunday, November 5, a gunman opened fire inside and out of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, a small community east of San Antonio, Texas. Twenty-six church members, ranging in age from five to seventy-two, didn’t survive the attack. My heart breaks for their families.
News sources report the gunman had a troubled past and that he appeared to be “a guy that just seemed miserable in life.” What makes a person so wretchedly unhappy that he would kill innocent children? I hope I never know.
Physical needs can be obvious, but mental crises can’t always be seen with our eyes. Since this horrific tragedy, I’ve done a lot of praying for the families, as well as for myself. I’ve asked my Father to awaken His Holy Spirit in me to the emotional challenges of others. I hope you do, too.
